CIMC ENRIC Energy Systems · News · Virtual pipeline and distributed power
On 22 October 2026, CIMC ENRIC welcomed a delegation from Mitsui & Co.'s Digital Power Solutions organisation, joined by colleagues from Mitsui's China business, to its headquarters. The teams toured the exhibition hall and exchanged views on virtual-pipeline gas supply and distributed power, and on how to work together on next steps. The visit comes as tight, volatile diesel supply pushes more energy users to look at natural gas delivered and converted to power on site.
1. A visit built around the full gas-to-power chain
The delegation walked through the exhibition hall, from the group's container and road-transport heritage to the equipment that stores, moves and uses gas: LNG and CNG storage, ISO tank containers, trailers, regasification and gas-fired generation. The sand table of the complete chain, from storage terminals through truck and rail logistics to end users, anchored much of the conversation.
Discussion centred on two themes. Virtual pipelines use small-scale LNG and CNG logistics to reach users beyond the gas grid. Distributed power turns that gas into electricity at the point of use. Both sides agreed to keep exploring cooperation in these areas and to continue the exchange between their teams.
2. Why diesel volatility matters now
Diesel is still the default fuel for off-grid power, mining, remote industry and backup generation. In 2026 that default has become harder to rely on. In its October 2026 Oil Market Report, the IEA said diesel markets remained under significant strain, that counter-seasonal stock draws had left the market short of cover ahead of winter, and that replenishment of lost inventories is unlikely before the second half of 2027. The agency noted that wholesale diesel prices reached all-time highs of around $220 a barrel in Europe and the United States in September, and warned that delivered prices in importing markets, including Europe, Africa and Latin America, could rise again.
National data point the same way. The US Energy Information Administration expects US distillate inventories to remain below their 2021–2025 five-year low through much of 2027, citing supply losses from the Middle East, Russia and China, as reported by Axios. Reuters reported on 9 October that US diesel prices remained near record highs despite policy measures intended to add supply.
For an operator running generators every day, the issue is not only price. It is whether fuel arrives on time, at a cost that can be planned.
3. From molecule to electron
Natural gas offers a different route. Where pipelines do not reach, LNG or CNG can move by ISO container, trailer, rail or vessel. That is a virtual pipeline. At site, the gas is stored, regasified and fed directly to gas generators. The chain that delivers the molecule also delivers the electron.
CIMC ENRIC's portfolio covers this chain end to end: cryogenic and compressed gas storage and transport equipment, small-scale LNG infrastructure engineering and containerized gas-to-power generation. We see this integrated approach, with infrastructure first and power at the end of it, as the foundation of a new build-out of gas infrastructure for users who can no longer count on diesel alone.
4. Two containerized power modules for virtual-pipeline end users
CIMC ENRIC is preparing two rapidly deployable gas power modules for users at the end of a virtual pipeline.
Both platforms can be paralleled, scaling from multi-megawatt installations up to around 100 MW for continuous power at data centers, mines and industrial sites.
| SL500 Power Cube | Confirmed reference |
|---|---|
| Fuel / prime mover | Natural gas / reciprocating internal-combustion engine |
| Output | 500 kW; 400 V / 480 V; 50 Hz / 60 Hz; power factor 0.8 |
| Dimensions / weight | 3048 × 2438 × 3178 mm; approx. 7,000 kg |
Output follows the heating value of the supplied gas: the SL500 delivers its rated output on ISO-standard natural gas and is derated when the heating value is lower. Site rating, fuel analysis and configuration are confirmed for each project.
What comes next
CIMC ENRIC and Mitsui & Co. will continue their exchange on virtual-pipeline and distributed-power opportunities. For CIMC ENRIC, the visit reinforces a simple view: as diesel becomes less predictable, the projects that move fastest will be those that plan gas supply and power generation as one system.
